History of The Broad

The Broad opened its doors to the public in September 2015. Founded by philanthropists Eli and Edythe Broad, the museum was created to provide free access to contemporary art and inspire future generations.

Designed by the architectural firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro in collaboration with Gensler, the building’s distinctive design is often referred to as the “veil and the vault.” The “vault” houses the collection and support spaces, while the “veil” is the porous exterior that filters natural light into the galleries.

Since its opening, The Broad has attracted millions of visitors and has become a centerpiece in LA’s cultural corridor. Click here to read about the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles, Ca
